Bland Betty

So, next time I'm at the deli counter to purchase some lunch meat for myself, and I'm paying more attention to the price rather than the cut of meat, can someone please remind me not to purchase the spicy capacolla because it's too spicy for a sandwich? It's just so darn pretty! I can never resist!

Too spicy? Surely you jest! Pair it with some good mozzerella, basil mayo, fresh tomatoes - yum, yum, yum!

Oh, ah feel yer pain! Spicy capacolla is the perfect example of a meat product which is really a flavoring, not a main ingredient. There was a great little deli in DC which would sell you a dangerous sub full of the stuff, complete with hot peppers, if you were silly enough to ask for it.

But Shannin's got the right take... combine it with a lot of good but mild ingredients. Mortadella would be nice.

Now I'm hungry...

Yes, I know how to mitigate the spiciness, but when I'm going for your basic throw some meat, cheese and mayo on two slices of bread and call it lunch that's just far too much work to do.

OK, I've never bought lunch meat (or any other kind of meat) because it was "pretty." I can tell we don't shop the same way.
